PROJECT SUMMARY

Clark Nexsen Architecture & Engineering provided full architectural and engineering for the Third Barracks at Virginia Military Institute which can now accommodate up to 1,500 cadets.

The project presented several design challenges. Design solutions were formulated around the steep slope of the site, the road running through the building and the complex phasing that had to occur due to the demolition of the adjacent building.

In addition to the new 300 bed Third Barracks, Clark Nexsen also designed a cadet commons (dining) with a seating capacity of 185. Amenities include a gourmet coffee station, pizza station and a “Grab-N-Go” component.
