Please join us for the 16th annual Paul Zia Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Tammy Jow, Brendan Murphy and Todd Whisenhunt. In their lecture entitled “Wilshire Grand Center: Tallest Building West of the Mississippi,” the speakers will discuss the design and construction of the 73-story structure in Los Angeles, including its unique architectural features; structural design (e.g., the mass concrete design and lateral force resisting system); and the coordination efforts for the foundation concrete pour that was placed during a continuous 18.5-hour period, setting the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous foundation concrete pour.
This annual lecture honors Professor Emeritus Dr. Paul Zia, former professor and department head for NC State’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, and a structural engineer who is eminent in research, professional society leadership and practice.

Admission is free, but registration is required at zialecture.com/register/. Donations will be gladly accepted to support the Paul Zia Education Fund for Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering students at NC State.
There are two PDH credits available for engineers.
Parking will be available in the Special Events and Varsity Drive Lots. Shuttles will run continuously every 15 minutes between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. A detailed map with more information will be sent out closer to the event to those who register.
Sponsorship opportunities are available. Attendees, sponsors and speakers are invited to attend a cocktail reception following the lecture in the lobby.
