Job Description
    INTERN - CULTURAL RESOURCES/PLANNING | CARY, NC CALYX Engineers and Consultants, an NV5 company, is seeking an intern for our cultural resources/planning group in the Cary, NC office. The intern will receive valuable experience that will allow the individual to apply knowledge received during school studies and determine the area of focus for upcoming course work and career opportunities. This individual will provide assistance to architectural historians, planners, engineers, and managers. The most frequent and essential work activities include:
    • Assist staff with cultural resources and planning projects related to North Carolina architectural and social history projects.
    • Utilize Adobe Acrobat software and Google Earth/Maps.
    • Participate in fieldwork.
    • Assist with historical and architectural research.
    • Help prepare client reports and deliverables.
    • Complete project tasks within deadlines. Prerequisites for employment include:
    • Rising senior, recent graduate or graduate student in historic preservation, architectural history, public history, southern history, American studies, digital humanities or other related curriculum
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Well organized
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Google Earth/Maps, and Microsoft Office
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment-preferred Work Environment and Physical Demands The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.     • Work will primarily be in the office setting with some opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
    • Work will be primarily working with fingers by picking, pinching, typing and grasping often with repetitive motion.
    • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Some work will be in the field involving long term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards at project sites.
    • Must have the ability to see, smell, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
    • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
    • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
