• Pavement Engineering Technician

    Job Description
    Would you like to join the REI team? We're looking for a Pavement Engineering Technician in our Charlotte Office. Working under the direction of the Project Manager and according to clear guidelines, the Pavement Engineering Technician will provide field and office support for proposals, specifications, design, construction administration and assessments. Work includes AutoCAD drafting, recording measurements, observing construction work in progress, making and repairing investigative openings in pavement construction, taking photographs, etc. Work is typically performed on multiple projects simultaneously.
    Core Responsibilities:
    • Collect field data for use in the various aspects of consulting/engineering services, such as proposals, specifications and assessments. Field data may consist of photographs, site plans, general notes including construction type, details, elevations and measurements of existing conditions.
    • Assist in producing project drawings and schematics.
    • Perform construction monitoring during projects to ensure that the work is in accordance with the specifications.
    • Document observations and discrepancies in a written report.
    • Assist with assessments and investigations. Duties may include testing, material sampling, and performing and repairing destructive openings.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.
    Skills and Knowledge:
    • Working knowledge of a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software platform.
    • Microsoft Office Suite skills to include Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
    • Adobe Acrobat and Revu Bluebeam skills.
    • Working knowledge of materials and installation processes used in pavement and concrete systems.
    • Ability to understand project specifications, submittals and other documentation.
    • Ability to identify discrepancies between actual construction and project requirements and communicate these discrepancies both verbally and in written reports.
    • Ability to manage schedules to meet deadlines and commitments through exceptional organizational skills.
    • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
    • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
    Education and Training:
    • Minimum two-year degree in engineering or construction related program or equivalent work-related experience. A four-year degree preferred.
    • Must possess and maintain a clean driving record.
    Work Experience:
    • Experience with an engineering firm/contractor a plus.
    • Six to twelve months experience in the roofing industry.
    Physical and Environmental Demands:
    • Ability to work outside year-round.
    • Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting (approximately 50 pounds minimum).
    • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to climb a ladder.
    Other Requirements:
    • Work requires overnight travel.
    • Must pass pre-hire and random drug and alcohol screens and criminal background check.
