The ACEC/North Carolina Junior Board is composed of young engineering industry professionals who are eager to get more involved in the business side of engineering, engage in ACEC/North Carolina, and expand their networks through social, educational, and volunteer opportunities.


About The ACEC/NC Junior Board  

  

The Junior Board’s Mission Statement:   

To promote and develop diverse industry involvement and leadership within ACEC/NC from a broad range of demographics, disciplines, and geographies within the engineering community, specifically focusing on developing professionals.

 

Junior Board Responsibilities:  

 

  • The Junior Board will help the Board of Directors execute the strategic plans of ACEC NC and to guide the mission of ACEC/NC.
  • Promote diversity within ACEC/NC in terms of demographics, disciplines, geography, and activities.
  • Promote the industry amongst higher education and K-12 students to increase awareness and communicate opportunities related to the industry and ACEC/NC.
  • The Junior Board will be expected to develop programming in line with the strategic plan and ACEC/NC Junior Board mission statement, and work toward it in concert with the ACEC/NC Board of Directors and staff.
  • Members are expected to attend all called meetings to discuss engagement, improvements, and new ideas for ACEC/NC and participate in ACEC/NC committees and events.  A minimum of six meetings per year is anticipated.
  • Members must be willing to represent ACEC/NC as they conduct their daily business and encourage membership and participation to business associates by communicating ACEC/NC mission and goals.  

 

 Junior Board Opportunities:  

 

  • Grow your professional network through participation in Junior Board meetings, committee meetings, and events.
  • Influence the direction of ACEC/NC through feedback to the ACEC/NC Board of Directors and Junior Board initiatives.
  • Gain greater knowledge of the industry through interaction with the day-to-day activities of ACEC/NC.
  • Increase leadership skills and exposure with the opportunity to serve on the Junior Board Executive Committee in the 2nd year of term.
  • Expand your leadership capabilities by developing and implementing Junior Board goals and programming.  

The ACEC/NC Junior Board Structure/ Requirements

 The Junior Board will consist of 11 members. 

  • Terms are to last two years.
  • Each member must be from a different firm; there will be no two people from the same firm. 
  • Only North Carolina employees from ACEC/NC member firms will be allowed to be on the board. 
  • Each member must have between 5 to 15 years of full-time experience at the time of application deadline.  
  • Applicants for the Junior Board will be interviewed/evaluated by the ACEC/NC Board of Directors, in accordance with the Junior Board By-laws.
  • If a nomination form does not have a principal’s signature, then the nomination form will not be reviewed.
  • Any applicant who does not meet the minimum requirements listed above will not be considered.
  • Junior Board chair will serve as the ex-officio member of ACEC/NC Board of Directors and would be expected to provide current feedback of events/initiatives to the Board of Directors.
  • One ACEC/NC Board member will serve as Junior Board liaison. 

Nominations will be accepted beginning on Monday, March 2, 2026, through Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
