Professional Bio
I began my career as a soil scientist and drafting technician for the US Army. I had the opportunity to proudly serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom over two deployments to combat zones in Iraq, one for 12 months and another for 15 months. My first construction projects were an artillery staging area in Tal Afar, and a police station in Mosul, Iraq. During the time I spent in the Middle East I developed a deep understanding of how critical infrastructure is to the people it serves across the globe.
After departing from the armed forces I studied geology at East Carolina University, where I was afforded the opportunity by the National Science Foundation and the US Antarctic Program to conduct marine geochemical research along the shorelines of the Western Antarctic Peninsula. I spent two field seasons working aboard the R/V Laurence M. Gould and performing research while based at Palmer Station.
After finishing a Master's program at ECU I worked on transportation projects both within NCDOT’s Geotechnical Engineering Unit as a Highway Geologist and as a consultant at a large design-build firm. Seeing the industry from both the agency and consultant perspectives has helped me understand the value of the relationships between government agencies and private corporations. I continue to focus on building lasting partnerships with clients and project owners through innovative communication strategies and successful project delivery.
