Professional Bio

Mr. Luke Bucklen, P.E., has worked as a full-time Design Engineer for GPI in West Virginia since January 2021 with his focus being bridge design. Prior to starting full-time, Mr. Bucklen worked for GPI in West Virginia as a Bridge Design Intern in the summers of 2019 and 2020. Before working at GPI, he worked for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) and TMG Construction as an Intern. Mr. Bucklen obtained his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and master’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis in structural design) from West Virginia University. Since being with GPI, Mr. Bucklen has experience with bridge design and analysis, bridge rehabilitation, bridge inspection, bridge modeling, and plan development. He also has exposure to various other aspects of transportation projects, including Right-of-Way plan development and construction inspection. As a designer, he has been responsible for structural calculations and designs following AASHTO LRFD design methods, load ratings of steel and prestressed concrete girders, cost and quantity calculations at various stages of bridge projects, and quality assurance. As a bridge inspector, he has been an assistant team leader for inspection of various key bridge components along with preparation of inspection reports and maintenance recommendations.
