Professional Bio

Santiago E Aguilar is originally from Quito, Ecuador. From an early age, Santiago expressed his desire to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a Civil Engineer. After one year participating as exchange student in Northern Michigan, Santiago decided to pursue his college career in the United States as one of his greatest long-term dreams. He obtained an Associates of Science degree from Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba, MI after which he transferred to Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI where he obtained his Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. Santiago graduated in 2006 and since then. Santiago spent 18 years of his early career at BergerABAM/Louis Berger/WSP conglomerate. Santiago currently works at Moffatt & Nichol as a Senior Project Manager and leads the National Bridge Practice at his location in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Since the start of his professional career, Santiago has been involved in numerous transportation infrastructure projects in Washington State, Oregon, Hawaii, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, and Virginia. Santiago has also worked in numerous waterfront and port projects in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala and the United States. Santiago has designed and managed various projects including bridges, flyovers, railway grade separations, underpasses, railroad bridges, pedestrian bridges, pier structures, among others. Some iconic projects Santiago has been involved with include the Seattle Seawall project, East Marginal Way Grade Separation in Seattle, Honolulu Rail Transit City Center Segment, Chiquita Brands International Pier Expansion, Atlantic Bridge Temporary Structures, and others.
Santiago enjoys spending time with his wife and kids. His family enjoys going hiking, swimming, playing badminton, soccer, and traveling.
